  20. This CD-ROM includes the latest and best collection of internet
  21. programs and tools.  We have custom written the P.I.E. viewer/
  22. installer that makes reading ZIP files a snap. 
  23.  
  24. The viewers on this CD are custom-written for this CD-ROM.
  25. They are easy to use and powerful.
  26.  
  27. P.I.E. viewer has "see-thr'" capability to view the inside contents 
  28. of ZIP files without unzipping them.  This is a very useful feature.
  29. The viewer can also launch any program by double-clicking any 
  30. executable file (.EXE, .COM, or .BAT).
  31.  
  32. The P.I.E. viewer has been tested under WINDOWS '95 and runs fine.
  33.  
  34. Depends on your system, you may need at least 600K RAM to run
  35. the P.I.E. viewer under the main menu.  If you get "insufficient
  36. memory" message, simply get out of Windows and the main menu.
  37.     Then type: IPTOOL   <ENTER>   
  38. To run the viewer directly from Windows.  See TROUBLE-SHOOTING
  39. section for more help if you still have problems.

  41. No installation is needed if you use our  P.I.E. program
  42. viewer.  It also does not install any icon or program group in your 
  43. Windows desktop either.  Most people like this low profile feature.
  44.  
  45. The P.I.E. program viewer lets you see any text file (.DOC, .TXT, 
  46. or .ASC) and ZIP file.  It lets you unzip file to the directory 
  47. of your choice.  
  48.                                   
  49. To start browsing, simply click on any directory will give you 
  50. a list of subdirectories or file names.  Click on the ones that 
  51. you want to examine.  Click on any text or document file for 
  52. descriptions of the programs.  A good place to start is to click 
  53. on the .DIZ file if available.  .DIZ file lists a concise description 
  54. of the program.  Click on any .EXE or .BAT file twice will test run 
  55. the program. Click on any .ZIP file will let you "see" inside the 
  56. content of the compressed file.  You can also unzip the ZIP file to
  57. your hard drive by clicking on the "copy to hard disk" button.
  58.  
  59. Some programs may not run on your hard disk if it has an "R" 
  60. attribute.  ALL files on CD-ROM is flagged "R" to prevent your 
  61. PC from writing on the CD-ROM. This "R" attribute will stay 
  62. with the file even though you copy the file into your hard disk. 
  63. To remove this attribute, simply 
  64.      type: ATTRIB *.* -r     < ENTER >

  71. We assume Windows is in your DOS path and that you will use our
  72. Windows-based program viewer.  
  73.  
  74. Simply type GO after logging on your CD-ROM drive to launch
  75. the operating menu.

  77. If you want to by-pass the operating menu.  Simply do the 
  78. following:
  79.  
  80. 1. If you are outside WINDOWS, simply type:  
  81. D:\IPTOOL    <ENTER>       for the P.I.E. program viewer
  82. -- where "D" is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive.
  83.  
  84. 2. If you are inside WINDOWS, click on FILE, then RUN, then type: 
  85. D:\IPT        then click "OK"
  86. -- where "D" is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive.
  87.  
  88. 3. If you have logged in the CD-ROM drive and have NOT logged in
  89. WINDOWS, simply type:
  90.      IPTOOL          <ENTER>  
  91.

  94. HOW TO USE THE P.I.E. VIEWER
  95. ======================================
  96. The following steps to use the viewer are suggestions only.
  97. You can develop your own ways.
  98.  
  99. After loading the viewer, look for the directory tree window;
  100. click on any directory; you will see a long list of files or
  101. sub-directories.  Click on any sub-directory, you may see another 
  102. list of sub-directories.  Click on any one of the directory will 
  103. show you a list of file names.  
  104.  
  105. To get an idea of the contents of the program, search for 
  106. files with the following extensions: 
  107.    FILENAME.TXT
  108.    FILENAME.DOC
  109.    FILENAME.MAN
  110.    FILE.DIZ      (the first one to "click" if available)
  111.    README.DOC
  112.    README.1ST
  113.    READ.ME
  114.    MANUAL.DOC
  115.    MANUAL.TXT
  116.  
  117. You should get information on how to use or launch the program.
  118. Our viewer also lets you to print out any text file on the screen.
  119. You may also click on the "FULL SCREEN VIEW" button if you want
  120. to read the text file in full page-mode.

  122. To launch or test-run a program, look for files with the
  123. following extensions and double-click the file.
  124.    FILENAME.BAT         (batch file)
  125.    FILENAME.EXE         (executable files)
  126.    FILENAME.COM         (compiled file, executable)
  127.  
  128. Running programs directly from the CD-ROM is convenient and saves
  129. hard disk space, but not every program will run from CD properly.
  130. Some programs, especially the ones that write temporary files,
  131. scores, or records, will not run from the CD-ROM (read-only media).
  132. Sometimes the program will simply give you an "error writing disk"
  133. message, exit, and no harm done to your system.  You just do not get a
  134. record of your scores.  Sometimes your computer may freeze, hangs, 
  135. or gives out error messages like "path not found" or "I/O errors".  
  136. Simply copy programs to your hard disk and re-run program.  Refer 
  137. to TROUBLE-SHOOTING section if you have more questions.

  139. To look at the contents of a ZIP file (compressed file), simply
  140. click on it and a Windows of its file list pops up.  You can
  141. view any text files with the viewer. But you cannot launch any
  142. programs since they have not yet been decompressed.  You can
  143. copy the directory to hard disk and launch program from there.

  145. To switch to different directory, simply click on any directory
  146. that you want to see on the directory tree.  Then click on  
  147. any files that you want to see or launch.

  150. COMMAND SUMMARY FOR PIE VIEWER

  152.     Single-click any directory to get inside next level of directory
  153.                  or inside the subdirectory.
  154.     Single-click on any NON-executable file (.doc, .txt, .asc, etc.)
